This would actually be kind of funny if it didn’t have serious ramifications for the folks in those countries.

McCain Is Florida Victor; Giuliani Set to Exit the Race - New York Times

I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to this until late last night, but it played out pretty much the way I thought it would. Guiliani’s heart has just never seemed to be in it. And thankfully, Edwards is out - he was easily the worst of the remaining serious contenders. Short of a meltdown of historic proportions, my prediction is a McCain/Clinton clean sweep on Super Tuesday.

FT.com / Columnists / Stefan Stern - Lofty view from Davos could just be a mirage

It came as a mild surprise to me that both board level and mid level managers are underwhelmed with the senior management of their respective organizations.

I’d love to see the action plan to address that problem :)

Bush, Facing Woes in ’08, Focuses on War and Taxes - New York Times

I missed the SOTU last night (fell asleep watching something else).  Usually, I try to keep an eye on it to see what the President thinks he’s going to get accomplished, and then use those words as a stick to beat him (and Congress) with for the remainder of the year.

It’s just comedy waiting to happen :)

Yahoo Report Could Disappoint, Analysts Say Layoffs Likely | Epicenter from Wired.com

This sucks, and I can say that after going through numerous layoff sessions myself at AOL.  In the final analysis, there is something unethical about sacking people when you are a profitable company - for no other reason than that you’re not profitable enough.  It’s one thing if you’re showing losses, but it’s a complete lack of leadership (and creativity) when it’s done in the hopes that it will satisfiy Wall Street.  I suppose the further you slither up the greasy pole the easier it is to rationalize these kinds of moves.  But then, I’ve never been a CEO.

UPDATE 4-Bush speech will seek to calm fears over economy | Reuters

Good luck, Dubya.  You’ve been a miserable failure from a purely economic standpoint - especially from a small-government, conservative perspective.  I don’t expect to hear anything that will put a dent in your track record to this stage.
