Eariler today, I saw a talk by Thomas Vanderwal here at the Dulles, VA AOL campus. He went through an interesting presentation geared toward the social aspects of Web 2.0, and applied some of the discussion against real world applications. All in all, very solid if not earth shattering.
He was questioned about the Bebo acquisition and gave a more positive response than I would have expected (although he may have felt it was a partisan crowd - the reality is that I think that employee opinion is more split). He wasn’t exactly gushing about any of the big social networks, but thought that if AOL could smooth some of the sharp edges that we might really have something.

And the news just gets worse for the Chinese government. As they turn up the fiery rhetoric the Free world - across the political spectrum - has found something that they can agree on and are piling on the pressure. This is the price of playing in the Global Power Game. Checkmate?
